Yamecha green tea is a specialty of Fukuoka Prefecture that has attracted international fame due to its superior taste and quality.
The name ""yamecha"" is said to have been given by the oldest tea merchant in Kyushu, the Yabeya Konomi Honke.
The streets of Yame Fukushima, where Yabeya Konomi Honke has its store, have been selected as a nationally important preservation district for groups of traditional buildings for its outstanding features.
